Arverne and BRGM sign a partnership to strengthen knowledge of the subsurface in the Clermont-Ferrand area
Pau / Orléans - 23 March 2026 - Arverne, the leading French supplier of geothermal solutions, is strengthening its ties with the BRGM (Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières – the French geological survey) and formalizing a scientific partnership aimed at enhancing knowledge of the subsurface in the Riom and Clermont-Ferrand regions.
This partnership leverages the complementary expertise of both organizations and combines their field and archival data to obtain an even more precise understanding of deep structures and geothermal fluid flows in the Clermont-Ferrand basin within the scope of the PER (Permis Exclusif de Recherches - Exclusive Prospecting Licence) held by 2gré (a subsidiary of Arverne).
This collaboration builds on the ties already established between BRGM and Lithium de France in Alsace (another Arverne subsidiary). It marks a new step in strengthening the knowledge necessary for the development of local, sustainable, and self-sufficient geothermal energy, benefiting communities, economic stakeholders, and the regional energy transition.
The research program will focus on the collection, analysis, and modeling of geological, hydrogeological, hydrogeochemical, and thermal data specific to the Clermont-Ferrand region. This research builds on an existing partnership between BRGM and 2gré (a subsidiary of Arverne) within the framework of the PEPR “Subsurface, Common Good” research program in the Massif Central.
Against a backdrop of growing demand for renewable and domestically sourced heat, and ambitious national energy transition goals, deep geothermal energy serves as a local, continuously available energy solution.
By combining their expertise, Arverne and BRGM are helping to build a solid, expert understanding of the subsurface—essential for ensuring the safety, planning, and optimization of future geothermal projects.
