Riom Clermont Metropolitan Area

Arverne holds an Exclusive Prospecting Licence ("Permis Exclusif de Recherches”, PER) for the “Riom Clermont Métropole” area. In order to reveal the geothermal potential of the Auvergne subsoil, Arverne conducted a 3D exploration campaign at the end of 2024.

In Auvergne, the geothermal potential is significant, but little is known about the subsoil.

Therefore, in order to identify the different geological layers and the structure of the subsoil, and then to define the potential underground reservoirs containing geothermal water, an exploration campaign is the ideal solution.

PER Riom Clermont Métropole
497m²

This exploration is a non-intrusive investigative tool that involves performing a genuine ultrasound scan of the subsoil.

Prior to exploration, ultra-sensitive sensors called geophones are installed within a defined perimeter. Once this grid has been established, special trucks send sound waves into the ground, which are then “reflected” off the geological layers. These acoustic waves are recorded from the surface by the geophones.

The recordings collected are then processed to obtain two- or three-dimensional images of the geological layers. These underground images are analyzed by our geophysical experts to determine the most suitable area for implementing a geothermal heating project.

The results of this campaign are currently being analyzed.
